Vision Bigger, Plan Better, Change Your Future

2017 is HERE and so is another CASH Blog! 🙂

Perhaps you are one of the many who participate in the New Year’s resolution tradition, and you have already created  your list of self-improvement promises for the upcoming year. Or maybe you are more like me, and the failures of the past make it difficult to even think about the future. Either way, I think I can help 😉

visioningproverb-2My goal for today is to breathe life into your new year. With a little effort and encouragement, 2017 can bring about big things for you (and me)!

A vision is a  vivid description of what “success” looks and feels like for you. Visioning can be used for all sorts of things: financial goals, health goals, career goals, even relationship goals. The first step towards any change is to vision the end goal.

Let’s do a little exercise! Get yourself a pen or pencil and a blank sheet of paper. This may take a little while. Grab your favorite drink or snack while you are up 😉 And then, envision your future… VISUALIZE BIG

If nothing could stop you, what would your life look like 1 year from now?

  • What do you see when you look in the mirror?
  • Who is with you?
  • Where are you living?
  • What are you doing for a living?
  • How are you spending your free time?

Answer these questions again for 3 years from now, 5 years from now, and (if you want to think a little deeper) 10 years from now. Set this paper aside. We will come back to it later.

A plan is a strategy used to set priorities, focus energy, and utilize resources to reach a goal. Planning is a disciplined effort, and it is critical factor of any growth or progress. An effective plan will produce decisions and actions resulting in the best possible outcome(s).

Let’s go back to that visioning exercise and incorporate some PLANNING

Look at what you wrote for each year of vision and ask yourself the following questions:

  • What are you doing today that is moving you towards your tomorrow?
  • What needs to change in order to make progress?
  • What or Who is keeping you from reaching those goals?
  • Really???

roadmap-for-successNow, take those thoughts and turn them into actions:

  • List your identified obstacles.
  • For each obstacle, list the strategies needed to address the obstacle.
  • For each strategy, list the step-by-step tasks required to overcome the obstacle.
  • For each task, give yourself a reasonable and realistic deadline.

BOOM! By combining your vision with your plan, you created your very own roadmap to success! You have (in writing) a way to change your future!

Whether you soared through 2016 or struggled to make it to the finish line, that year is over and done with. Look ahead!  Pursue your vision by sticking to your plan and make the most of this fresh start.

Until next time, keep calm and keep up with the CASH blog!
